Aylien – Radar Platform Design
Radar was Aylien’s flagship AI-powered platform for real-time financial event monitoring used by global banks, asset managers, and risk teams to track and act on market-moving news. As Product Design Lead, I shaped the end-to-end design of the platform from concept and prototype to enterprise adoption positioning design as a strategic asset in product-market fit and growth.
The Strategic Challenge
Radar aimed to surface high-signal, real-time events across vast data streams and make them actionable in high-pressure financial environments. The challenge wasn’t just visual design it was building trust in AI-generated insights, delivering clarity across financial use cases, and enabling scale across enterprise accounts.
My Role
As Product Design Lead (and de facto Head of Design), I was responsible for both the product experience and the design function’s inception and growth at Aylien:
Product & GTM Strategy
Partnered with the CEO, CTO, and commercial leads to shape a product that could win in enterprise risk and compliance contexts. Designed demo flows that directly supported sales and investor pitches.
Design Leadership & Vision
Set design direction, created foundational UX patterns, and defined how Radar communicated complexity clearly across user roles (e.g., risk analyst vs. executive stakeholder).
Team Enablement & Operational Design
Built early design operations, introduced user feedback loops, and implemented a system for scalable UI/UX delivery with limited resourcing.
Cross-functional Influence
Regularly aligned with engineering, sales, and data science on roadmap trade-offs, information architecture, and feature prioritization based on customer insight and technical feasibility.
Outcomes
30+ banks and financial organisations signed up in alpha and beta phases
Contributed directly to successful enterprise sales wins, including Tier 1 bank clients.
Platform awarded “Most Disruptive Fintech” at Deloitte Innovation Awards 2021.
Why It Matters
Radar wasn’t just a UI challenge it was a strategic exercise in product market fit. Leading this work required balancing hands-on design with executive-level thinking: aligning with company goals, enabling sales traction, and helping define how design matured alongside the product.
This case reflects how I lead in early-stage, fast-moving environments: building clarity out of complexity, connecting craft to commercial impact, and elevating design’s role in company growth and client trust.
